My good lady was after doing some Strawberry Wine, but as they are out of season to buy 2kg of fresh Strawberries in the supermarket the price would come in at about £10 just for the fruit.
So while out shopping, popped into Wilkinsons in town for some notebooks. They had a 25% off sale on homebrew and they had a few wine kits on offer. We picked up a 6 bottle Strawberry wine kit for just under £7.00 and a couple of 1kg bags of Brewing sugar for £1.50 each.
We have never done a wine "kit" before but at £1.30 a bottle, it worked out cheaper this way than to buy the Strawberries and make it from scratch.
So today I started to make up this kit so in 20 days or so, according to the packet we should have 6 bottles of Strawberry wine.
I've used Tescos Ashbeck spring water to make up this wine, just to make it as good as possible, not sure if it makes any real difference but it's worth a shot.
Three days time I have to top up the demijohn with more water, don't know why they do it this way around, seems to me that with all that headspace it could leave the wine prone to infection.
Fermentation starts nice an quick though, as it has started already and it's only been about couple of hours since I made up the wine and it's started to bubble through the airlock.
